What does conex stand for?
CONEX is short for CONtainer EXpress, the U.S. military shipping system that standardized reusable steel boxes in the 1950s. The term remained in common use along the Gulf Coast long after the military program ended, which is why Texas buyers generally say conex where other regions say shipping container.
Is a conex box the same as a shipping container?
Yes. Conex box, shipping container, cargo container, sea can and CONEX are all names for the same ISO-standard steel intermodal container. There's no difference in construction, size or price based on which word you use. More background in our conex vs. shipping container guide.
